What is the FErUM?

FErUM is an open artistic group. As foundresses /Darina Hlinková and Zdeňka Řezbová / we are curatoresses and also exhibiting artists.

What is the project based on?

We don’t want to come with another concept of the so-called artistic duo, which acts on outside as one artistic subject, more or less united in its opinions, basing on this union. We are concerned about the real dialogue, discussion and confrontation, namely in the long-term point of view. This means that we don’t want to create a closed community, a group which will strengthen itself inside in its opinions, or which will break up because of the possible disagreements and internal differentiation of attitudes.

The aim of the group is to hold the exhibitions, actions and projects to which we will invite each time a new member, which may take part in one or more projects. We are concerned about opening a wider spectrum of views on a particular problem, on a concrete theme. The internal differentiation and a possible inconsistence is welcome then and we consider it as one of the basic assumptions of a successful functioning of the project.

Does the female art really exist?

We ourselves as curatoresses of this project are not sure about this question, or more precisely, we cannot agree ourselves on the answer. The FErUM project with its involvement would like to contribute to this discussion.

How do we organize ourselves?

Being the founding members of the FErUM project we naturally tend towards some particular themes about which we are concerned.

D. Hlinková – the myth of beauty, advertisement, kitsch, (photography, videos)

Z. Řezbová – the problem of identity, the inborn versus the social, (performance, installations, objects)

At the same time we let us concern about other “random” themes, which we intuitively understand as substantive. Each member works individually on the chosen theme (we rarely cooperate on a common project). It’s only the final result of the installation from the curator’s point of view that is discussed. We are also searching for and approaching other artistic subjects (could be a single artist or an artistic duo or a group), which had already expressed in their artistic work their attitude towards the them or whose contribution within the exhibition we presume to show another important aspect in attitude towards the theme.
